Interactive follow-up
Continue the conversation based on how each recipient responds. Branch on a reply and send a different follow-up — SMS or RCS — to each path.
What it is
Any campaign can react to its recipients. Turn on Interactive follow-upin the campaign editor and design a branching conversation in the visual flow builder: the campaign's message is the starting point, and each way a recipient can respond leads to a follow-up you choose.
- Available on every campaign — new or existing, RCS or SMS. It's off until you enable it.
- The conversation can go as deep as you like: a follow-up can itself branch on the next reply.
- Each follow-up step can be sent as SMS or RCS; RCS steps use the full message designer.
Building a flow
- The amber ROOT node is your campaign message. It can't be deleted.
- Press + on any node to add a follow-up. You'll pick what the recipient does to reach it, then design the message.
- Click a connector between two nodes to change its trigger; select it and press Backspace to remove it.
- Use the → SMS / → RCS toggle on a node to switch that step's channel.
What you can branch on
| Trigger | Fires when the recipient… |
|---|---|
| Taps a button | Taps a reply button on the previous RCS message. |
| Replies with text | Sends a text reply that matches one of your keywords or phrases (case-insensitive). |
| Shares a location | Sends their location. |
| Sends a file | Replies with a file. |
| Taps a link / call / calendar | Taps a link, call, or add-to-calendar button on the previous RCS message. |
| Anything else | A single catch-all per message, for replies no other branch matched. |
How replies are matched
Keywords and phrases
For a text branch, list the keywords or phrases that should follow it (one per line). Matching is case-insensitive — “contains” matches when the reply includes a keyword anywhere, and “exactly equals” matches only the whole reply.
Order of preference
A specific branch always wins over the catch-all: button taps and the listed reply types are checked first, then your text keywords, and only then the “anything else” branch.
Timing, opt-out, and limits
- Replies are answered immediately — including outside your sending window. The sending window only governs when a campaign first goes out, not your responses to a conversation a recipient started.
- STOP always wins. If a recipient opts out at any point, the conversation ends and no further follow-ups are sent.
- If a recipient never replies, their conversation simply ends — nothing else is sent.
- A safety cap limits how many follow-ups one recipient can receive in a single conversation, so a looping flow can't message someone endlessly.
Activating
When you activate, RCSync checks the flow the same way it checks the main message: every follow-up needs complete content, RCS steps need an RCS sender, and SMS steps need a sender with a provisioned number. Fix anything flagged in the builder and activate again.
